WorldFest missions celebration returns Nov. 11-15

Children march in the Parade of Nations

Donate gas and other gift cards, Matchbox cars and other children’s gifts, plus personal items, food/candy, and more now in special trunks provided in the Media Center of the Worship Center/Gym and at the Kids Street Worship Center entrance.

Missions Committee members will collect the items placed inside during the special two-week trunk display collection drive — and then those received in the Church Office afterward up to Nov. 8 — to make gift baskets for Triad’s guests Nov. 11-15 in the second WorldFest missions celebration.

The 2015 edition of WorldFest features Nov. 11 and Nov. 15 messages by Rev. Cletis Titus, Triad’s missionary to Jamaica with Baptist Mid Missions, and other activities involving three other missionary families Triad supports and a college ministry being considered for future support.

In addition to Cletis and his wife, Tammy, the other missionaries attending WorldFest this year are:

  • Craig and Megan Beatty and family (Portugal)
  • Joel and Beverly Shoaf and family (New Zealand)
  • Santiago and Jackie Orlutega (Pathway College Outreach Ministry)
  • Joe and Amy Marshall and family (West Africa)

The theme for the 2015 WorldFest conference is “Glow in the Dark” and the theme verse is Isaiah 49:6, “I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

Stefanie Allen, the Missions Committee member chair of the event, says that the committee made few changes from the new WorldFest format introduced in 2014 to further extend the reach of Triad’s longtime missions conference. Those changes helped members create even stronger relationships with the missionaries and mission efforts the church supports, which include the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission and Crisis Control Ministry.

“I felt we had a fabulous response last year and got a lot of good feedback that the new format was much more engaging and helped people really connect with the missionaries,” she said. “We’re hoping we can build on that this year.

“Our whole goal and my passion and love is for us at Triad to connect the members with the missionaries so they are more than a name on a budget line item and become a part of our regular thought life and are seen as an extension of our church overseas and not some distant people you never meet. Our mission through WorldFest is to build a bridge between the missionaries and members at Triad and connect them one on one, and we already heard examples of how last year’s program led to those kinds of regular connections which is exciting.”

WorldFest begins again 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Worship Center/Gym with a Parade of Nations and message from Titus and ends 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15.
