Radiate golf tournament exceeds goal

The team of Steve Kluk, Glenn Hurst, Gray Hill and Simon Shaw carded a 14-under-par 56 total for top honors May 8 in the Radiate Golf Tournament at Meadowlands Golf Course.

The event, which drew 94 golfers, greatly exceeded fundraising goals for the Radiate High School Ministry’s summer trip to Student Life Camp June 13-20 at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina — making the cost more affordable.

Before the tournament, the per person cost for the 55 students and 19 adults (food team or chaperones) going was $505. Now, it's nearly half that total.

“After paying the golf course and purchasing a few items for the tournament, we ended up raising $13,589, or $3,589 more than our goal in corporate sponsorships and golfer fees,” High School Youth Pastor Jared Hoots said.

“All in all, the students have raised enough funds to take $265 off the cost of each person's trip, leaving the cost for the week at $240 per student, rather than $505,” Hoots said. “We praise the Lord for His provision, and are pumped about these results!

“God gave us a beautiful day for the tournament, and the golfers seemed to have a ton of fun. Our presenting sponsors (Vestal Buick GMC & Rumburg Grading) stepped up in a huge way financially. We’re very grateful for their support.”

Based on the verse John 6:35, Hoots said that the Student Life Camp’s theme is “Come To The Table” — presenting students with Jesus’ request to sit with Him at the table and eat (Revelation 3:20) while exploring common areas of modern discontent and how looking to any source of satisfaction other than Christ ultimately brings emptiness.
