Jane

For more than fifteen years, Jane Roberts has quietly served the family of Triad Baptist Church in a way that is both simple and deeply meaningful—through homemade bread. What began years ago in Charleston as a small effort to supplement income while she and her husband ran a landscaping business has become something far greater. Banana bread, the very first item she ever baked and sold, remains her signature today. Yet for Jane, it’s never just been about the recipe. It’s about the care, consistency, and calling behind every loaf.

Jane will tell you there’s no flashy “secret ingredient” to her bread—just years of experience and a deep understanding of the process. Over time, she’s learned how to bring everything together just right. But what truly sets her baking apart isn’t technique—it’s intention. She views her ability not as a talent to profit from, but as a gift to give. “Everyone is given a gift,” she says. “This is mine.” For Jane, baking became a ministry after her salvation—a tangible way to express love, gratitude, and obedience to the Lord.

Her journey at Triad began when a once-thriving bread committee gradually faded. When she noticed store-bought items replacing homemade ones, something stirred in her. She stepped in to carry on the tradition, eventually becoming the sole provider of fresh bread each Wednesday night. As the church grew, so did the need to simplify, leading her to focus on banana bread—no nuts, something everyone could enjoy. Today, she faithfully prepares bread for the First Step class (new members), trusting God to provide the means just as He always has.

Though she describes herself as a private person, Jane’s life is rooted in rich, meaningful connections. She lives on family land in her grandparents’ home, with her daughter and son-in-law close by—a picture of legacy and quiet faithfulness. And while she may not seek the spotlight, her impact is felt in countless personal moments. Like the time she felt led to give bread to a groundskeeper—only to discover it was his birthday. “I didn’t know,” she recalls, “but God did.” Those are the moments she treasures most—when a simple act becomes something sacred.

Jane’s motivation is clear: gratitude for her Savior and a desire to serve. She shows up week after week not out of obligation, but out of joy. “It truly makes my day when I can make someone else’s day,” she says. Her encouragement to others is just as genuine—find what you love, and offer it to the Lord. When you serve with your whole heart, she believes, God will always provide a way. And through something as humble as homemade bread, Jane Roberts has shown what it looks like to live that truth—faithfully, quietly, and full of grace.

When our family arrived in Kernersville in 2012; a loaf of bread was waiting for us. This simple gesture was a sign of a friendly church family; something we found to be true in the years since. Jane also became known to us as the "Bird Lady" much to the joy of the VBS children. Great is the contribution of this quiet servant. Thank you, Jane.
